A sharp surge in activity has been recorded on the Sun: the number and area of active regions have been rapidly growing since midday on July 11, including areas on the side of the star not visible from Earth. This information was published by the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences on its official website.
As noted in the message, monitoring of solar activity is currently being carried out by the Solar Orbiter spacecraft, which transmits valuable data about the ongoing processes.
"From July 11 to 12, 17 flares occurred on the Sun, which corresponds to an increase in flare activity by approximately 3 times compared to the average values for July," the publication emphasizes.
RAS specialists indicate that the observed changes in solar activity are global in nature, which may be significant for further research of our star.
