Fermented kefir with dietary fiber has shown amazing anti-inflammatory properties, surpassing omega-3 acids and prebiotics. This sensational discovery was made by researchers from the University of Nottingham, publishing their results in the Journal of Translational Medicine.
Prebiotics are special dietary components that are not digested in the upper digestive tract. When they reach the large intestine, they become a nutrient medium for beneficial microorganisms, stimulating their growth and activity.
During the six-week experiment, participants were divided into three groups, each receiving different supplements: omega-3 fatty acids, prebiotic fiber, or a combined product — kefir with prebiotics. Surprisingly, only volunteers from the third group showed a significant decrease in inflammatory markers in the blood and a noticeable improvement in well-being.
Researchers note that the main factor of success is the synergistic effect of the components. Fiber creates ideal conditions for the multiplication of beneficial bacteria from kefir, significantly enhancing their effect. This leads to increased production of short-chain fatty acids, particularly butyrate, which effectively regulates immune responses and suppresses chronic inflammatory processes.
Scientists specifically note that neither kefir nor dietary fiber alone produced such impressive results. According to researchers, such a "synbiotic" approach may open new horizons in the fight against chronic inflammatory diseases, including cardiovascular system problems.
