Scientists have proven: shared happiness reduces stress hormone and improves health. The study, conducted by specialists from the University of California, Davis, was published in the prestigious journal Journal of Personality and Social Psychology (JPSP).

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Lenta.ru, 321 elderly couples from Canada and Germany participated in the experiment. Throughout the week, researchers recorded the emotional state of participants several times a day — how happy, peaceful, or interested they felt, and also collected saliva samples to analyze cortisol levels. Scientists processed almost 24 thousand indicators. The results were impressive: when partners simultaneously experienced positive emotions, the level of stress hormone decreased much more significantly than during individual experiences of joy. Notably, the beneficial effect persisted throughout the day, helping the body maintain a state of calm and significantly reducing physiological stress.

Researchers emphasized that the positive impact of shared emotional experiences was observed regardless of the overall quality of the relationship. Even couples with less harmonious relationships felt the calming effect. According to the lead author of the study, Tomiko Yeneda, sharing joy together is one of the most accessible and natural ways to take care of one's health.
