Psychological trap: how to recognize toxic relationships in a family

"An ordinary conflict is an episode that has a resolution and doesn't undermine the foundation of the relationship. Toxic relationships are the system itself, destructive and repetitive," explained clinical psychologist Ksenia Savelyeva in a conversation with "Izvestia."

According to the specialist, constant pressure, manipulation through guilt, and systematic devaluation from family members are clear signs of unhealthy relationships. The key feature of toxic connections is their chronic, recurring nature.

Among the most alarming signals, Savelyeva highlighted regular devaluation of feelings and decisions, emotional blackmail, violation of personal boundaries, and a complete lack of empathy from loved ones.

Notably, it is deeply rooted guilt that most often prevents people from limiting communication with toxic relatives, the psychologist pointed out.
