It is possible to overcome an irresistible craving for sweets without medication — it is enough to adjust your diet, improve your sleep, and get your stress levels under control. This is the conclusion reached by the authors of an article in Health magazine dedicated to natural ways of combating sugar addiction.
As experts emphasize, stabilizing blood sugar levels plays a key role in this process.
To achieve this goal, it is recommended to enrich one's diet with foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy fats — these are precisely what help maintain a feeling of satiety longer and avoid sharp spikes in glucose.
At the same time, experts caution that overly strict dietary restrictions can have the opposite effect and only intensify sugar cravings. Therefore, it is far more important to maintain a balanced diet without drastic prohibitions.
"Craving sweets is often a signal that the body's balance of energy, sleep, or stress levels is disrupted," the article notes.
Experts also point out that chronic sleep deprivation and elevated stress can significantly boost appetite and intensify the desire to load up on fast carbohydrates.
Gradually reducing the consumption of added sugar, combined with establishing regular eating habits, can significantly weaken such cravings over time.
The American Heart Association recommends limiting the intake of added sugars to 6% of daily caloric intake, which amounts to no more than 6 teaspoons per day for women and 9 teaspoons for men.
