Five alarming signs of vitamin D deficiency that everyone should know about

As reported by TUT.AZ, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, Irina Volgina, explained in an interview with "Gazeta.Ru" about symptoms that may indicate a serious deficiency of vitamin D in the body.

The specialist emphasizes that the deficiency of this essential vitamin is widespread among the adult population, and many require additional intake of special supplements. Vitamin D not only helps absorb calcium for bone health — it performs a whole complex of functions, supporting immune protection, the work of the heart, blood vessels, and the nervous system.

"The symptoms of deficiency can be vague: bone and muscle pain, increased fatigue, balance disorders, brittle nails, hair loss, dry skin, frequent colds, sweating, and even depressive states," Volgina noted.

The expert particularly notes that residents of regions with insufficient sunlight need to take vitamin D for preventive purposes to prevent serious health problems. However, before starting supplementation, it is necessary to undergo laboratory blood testing for 25(OH)D levels to determine individual needs and dosage.

Volgina also reported on the results of scientific research that confirms the significant role of vitamin D in strengthening the body's defenses, which is especially important for patients who have recovered from COVID-19.
