Doctor named foods with record iron content

Endocrinologist talked about foods that help prevent iron deficiency anemia

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Gazeta.Ru", iron deficiency anemia seriously impairs the blood's ability to carry oxygen, leading to constant fatigue, weakness, and deterioration of well-being. Endocrinologist at Atribeaute clinic Elena Shafranskaya explained that in women of reproductive age, the main cause of this condition is often heavy menstruation.

The doctor emphasized that iron deficiency often occurs due to problems with the gastrointestinal tract, which prevent the full absorption of this important microelement. Patients who have undergone surgical interventions, including partial removal of the stomach, are at particular risk.

According to the endocrinologist, nutrition plays a key role in maintaining normal iron levels. Avoiding animal food can cause deficiency, as plant sources of iron are absorbed 3-5 times worse compared to red meat.

Shafranskaya noted that strict vegans need to properly combine products: combining plant sources of iron (legumes, buckwheat, spinach) with foods rich in vitamin C significantly improves the absorption of this microelement.

The specialist named beef and pork liver, beef tongue, turkey, chicken, pork, veal meat, as well as fish and shrimp as absolute champions in iron content. Among plant foods, the endocrinologist recommends paying attention to cereals, legumes, tomatoes, as well as rose hips, strawberries, pomegranates, persimmons, and apples.
