US President Donald Trump revealed details of a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin that took place on June 17.
The American leader told journalists about this during a conversation broadcast by Fox News.
According to the White House head, the Russian president took the initiative to become a mediator in resolving the tense situation between Iran and Israel.
"He actually offered help in mediation. And I said: do me a favor, mediate at home first. Let's sort out Russia first, and you can worry about that later," the US president said.
At the same time, Trump expressed hope for a peaceful resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in the future. "I think that will be settled too," he noted, emphasizing the tragic consequences of the confrontation: "so many people have died."
It is worth recalling that the previous officially confirmed conversation between the leaders of the two powers took place on June 14 - on the American president's birthday. It was then that Trump and Putin first discussed the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
