Trump intends to stop the conflict in Ukraine at a meeting with Putin
As reported by RBC, US President Donald Trump announced his main goal for the upcoming negotiations with the Russian leader.
"I will tell him: 'You must stop this war,'" Trump stated firmly.
The American president characterized the future meeting as a "trial" and expressed hope for constructive dialogue. According to him, the negotiations could turn out to be either "good" or "bad." The White House head emphasized that within the first two minutes of the meeting, he will understand whether it's possible to reach agreements.
Trump did not rule out the possibility of ending mediation efforts, but noted that in such a case, a settlement would not occur. "I can walk away and say: 'Good luck!' and that's it. I can say that it won't be settled. There are those who believe that Putin wanted all of Ukraine. By the way, I'm one of them. I think if it weren't for me, he wouldn't even be talking to anyone right now. But I'm going to meet with him. We will discuss the parameters [of the deal]. And then I'll call President [of Ukraine] Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders," said the US president.
Ultimately, Trump noted, he aims to organize a meeting between the leaders of the conflicting countries - Putin and Zelensky. The White House head allowed for his participation in these negotiations, "if needed." "In the end, I'll bring both of them into a room [for negotiations]. Maybe I'll be there, maybe not. And, I think, [the conflict] will be resolved," the US president stated.
Additionally, according to him, an exchange of territories may be conducted during negotiations on Ukraine. The head of the American administration emphasized that the US will try to return part of the territories to Ukraine, adding that the deal should be beneficial to both sides. "There will be an exchange of land for the benefit of Ukraine. But there will also be bad things for both sides... We will change the front line," he said.
