The Sun ejected two giant prominences

Grandiose cosmic show: new emissions of giant prominences occurred on the Sun

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "RIA Novosti", the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences has recorded an impressive phenomenon on our star.

"On the Sun, against the background of a completely calm state, emissions of giant prominences into space continue to be registered," the message says.

Scientists recalled that a similar event occurred several days ago. Today, two prominences flew into space synchronously from the left and right edges of the Sun. The second one, at the final stage, exceeded the size of the star itself, the laboratory noted.

It is specified that the right prominence was observed almost all of the past week on the solar disk opposite Earth. If it had broken away earlier, it could have caused serious geomagnetic and radiation consequences. Now there are no such risks, as the plasma is clearly moving away from Earth, with the right emission affecting Venus and the left one affecting Mars, the laboratory explained.

"The abundance of large prominences on the Sun, apparently, is associated precisely with a sharp decrease in flare activity, which allows these structures to grow now to gigantic sizes," scientists said.
