Rosatom: Strike on Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran would cause an accident comparable to Chernobyl

Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev made an alarming statement about the possible consequences of a strike on Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, comparing the potential catastrophe to the Chernobyl tragedy.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to TASS, Likhachev emphasized the seriousness of the situation and appealed to the Israeli authorities: "Rosatom urges the Israeli authorities that there should not be even a hint of a strike on Bushehr."

The head of the state corporation reported that some Russian specialists have already been evacuated from the site, while other employees are still allowed to remain. "Some of the people who were at the Bushehr nuclear power plant on business trips have already been evacuated. Thanks to Azerbaijan and Armenia [for assistance in evacuation] - by different routes, but with such a positive result," Likhachev noted.

Meanwhile, Rosatom is preparing for various scenarios, including the possibility of a complete evacuation of personnel. Likhachev highly praised the courage of Russian and Iranian specialists who continue to work at the station: "Our specialists and Iranians at the Bushehr nuclear power plant site are showing courage. There is normal operation at unit number one, work is ongoing on the construction of units. But we are literally a few steps away from an emergency situation."
