Friends saved the life of a Scotsman by noticing his strange bicycle posture
68-year-old pensioner from Edinburgh, Anthony Eyles, owes his life to his attentive friend who noticed his unusual posture during a joint bike ride. This observation prompted the former doctor to seek medical help, where they discovered a fist-sized tumor in his back. The diagnosis turned out to be serious – lymphoma.
A thorough examination at the Western General Hospital revealed multiple tumors in his back, ribs, and spine. Initially, doctors suspected pancreatic cancer, but after a biopsy, the diagnosis was clarified. Anthony underwent an intensive course of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which led to remission in May 2025. Currently, the Scotsman is awaiting the results of follow-up tests to rule out the possibility of recurrence.
His medical education helped Eyles cope with the disease on a psychological level.
"I told my doctor: don't pretend that I don't understand anything. Talk to me as a colleague," Eyles shared.
In September 2025, Anthony plans to participate in a charity bike ride to raise funds for an organization that supports patients with lymphoma.
