Italian stole jewelry worth 150 thousand euros using his hairstyle

Golden hairstyle: Italian turned his dreadlocks into a hiding place for stealing precious metals from a factory

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to Repubblica, Italian police uncovered an incredibly ingenious gold theft scheme organized by an employee of a precious metals smelting plant. The scam was exposed during a routine document check at a valuables buying point, when the 38-year-old man could not provide convincing explanations about the origin of the gold. Backed into a corner, the suspect surrendered and voluntarily handed over to law enforcement a gold strip weighing 250 grams, with a market value of 23 thousand euros. Subsequent searches of the perpetrator's residence discovered additional batches of stolen metal, after which he confessed to systematic thefts using his luxuriant hair.

During interrogation, the Italian revealed the details of his cunning scheme. Until January of this year, he worked at a jewelry factory in Switzerland, from where he regularly carried out gold, successfully deceiving security systems. The resourceful criminal discovered a vulnerability in the operation of metal detectors – their zone of action did not cover the level of his long dreadlocks, which allowed him to smuggle valuables unhindered. Over twelve months, the enterprising worker managed to steal almost two kilograms of gold, the total value of which is estimated at approximately 150 thousand euros.
