It has become known why Trump and Putin will meet in Alaska

Putin and Trump will hold a historic meeting on American soil, avoiding the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court

According to TUT.AZ, citing The Washington Post, the upcoming meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States will take place on the territory of the United States, where the powers of the ICC do not apply.

According to the American publication, various locations were considered during the preparation for the negotiations. Vladimir Putin had previously publicly mentioned the United Arab Emirates as a possible meeting place. The option with Italy was excluded due to the risk of arrest of the Russian president on a warrant from the International Criminal Court, the article emphasizes.

"The USA is not a party to the court, so a meeting in Alaska avoids this problem," notes the Washington Post.

The choice of Alaska as a venue for negotiations is due to the geographical proximity of this state to Russia.

"It seems quite logical that our delegation should simply fly across the Bering Strait," commented Putin's advisor Yuri Ushakov.

On August 15, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will hold talks in Alaska - this will be the first meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States on American territory since 1988. The main topic is peace in Ukraine. The proposals under discussion may include an exchange of territories and Kyiv's refusal to join NATO, according to Western media.
