As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to foreign media, a camper at Lake Tahoe became a victim of a rare disease after being bitten by an infected flea. Currently, the victim is receiving home treatment under close medical supervision.

According to statistics, only about 7 cases of plague infection are recorded annually in the United States.

The causative agent of this dangerous disease is the bacterium Yersinia pestis, which is transmitted through flea bites or contact with infected animals. Specialists emphasize that when detected early, plague can be successfully treated with antibiotics.

Medical professionals strongly urge tourists and pet owners to exercise increased vigilance in areas where wild rodents live.
