Japanese scientists created unique perfume with the scent of newborns after six years of research
An unusual perfume innovation has appeared in Japan — a fragrance with the scent of a newborn baby, reports Sora News. This innovative product is the result of six years of scientific research conducted by specialists from Kobe University.
The scientific team led by Mamiko Ozaki, an honorary professor at the university and an expert in the physiology of taste and smell, conducted extensive work. In collaboration with doctors from the Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, and with the participation of pregnant women and recent mothers, researchers collected scent samples from approximately 20 infants. During the analysis, scientists were able to identify 37 components that form the characteristic aroma of newborns.
The main component turned out to be nonanal — a chemical compound with floral notes. According to researchers, babies emit this substance to stimulate gentle interaction with parents. The new perfume is called Poupon Pure and is offered not only as a fragrance but also as a means for relaxation before sleep or during meditation. The idea of creating such a product came to Professor Ozaki after lengthy studies of pheromones in ants and reflections on how scents help strengthen social bonds between people.
At the moment, the first batch of the perfume is completely sold out. You can purchase a bottle only by pre-order at a price of $20 for 5 ml. New supplies are expected to go on sale between mid-August and early September.
