IAEA Chief: Iran may resume uranium enrichment in the coming months, despite strikes
"I would say that within a few months they could have several cascades of spinning centrifuges producing enriched uranium, or less," Rafael Grossi said in an interview with American television network CBS. "Honestly, one cannot claim that everything has disappeared and there is nothing left," emphasized the IAEA chief, commenting on the remaining components of Iran's nuclear program after US and Israeli strikes on the Islamic republic's facilities.
"It's clear that serious damage was inflicted, but first of all, it's not complete damage. And secondly, Iran has potential. Industrial and technological potential. If they want to, they can start doing this again," added Grossi, speaking about Tehran's capabilities to resume uranium enrichment and develop its nuclear program.
According to the IAEA Director General, Iran "had and still has to some extent uranium processing, conversion and enrichment capacities" in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Grossi noted that these capacities "are largely destroyed," however "something has been preserved." The agency head emphasized the need for IAEA inspectors to continue working in Iran in order to "regain information about ongoing activities."
