Shocking discovery: doctors extracted a ceramic spoon from the intestine of a man who swallowed it while intoxicated
Medical professionals in Shanghai encountered an unusual case when a 29-year-old patient with the surname Yang visited the hospital complaining about swallowing what he thought was a piece of plastic from takeout food. However, the examination revealed a startling discovery — a 15-centimeter ceramic spoon was found in the man's duodenum. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.
The story took an unexpected turn when the circumstances of the incident came to light. In January, Yang was vacationing in Thailand, where after a wild evening he returned to his hotel room heavily intoxicated. Trying to induce vomiting, he used a ceramic spoon, which he pushed so deep into his throat that it completely fell inside. After this, the man lost consciousness due to severe intoxication. Waking up the next morning, Yang decided that what happened was just a dream, and continued to live a normal life for a whole six months, unaware of the unusual "souvenir" inside him.
Removing the foreign object proved to be a challenging task for surgeons. The first attempt to grab the spoon with forceps failed due to the slippery surface of the object. The medical team had to use a combination of special instruments, and the operation itself lasted an hour and a half. Fortunately, the intervention was successful, and soon the patient was discharged from the hospital in satisfactory condition.
