Powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 shook Kamchatka Krai on the night of August 1
As reported by TUT.AZ, the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (UGS RAS) recorded a significant seismic event that occurred around 18:35 Baku time (02:35 local time on August 1).
The underground tremors were registered at a depth of almost 24 km in the Pacific Ocean. The aftershock's epicenter was located 239 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Specialists note that this aftershock was one of the most intense following the main earthquake.
According to the UGS RAS, in recent hours aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 4 to 5.9 are being registered approximately every 10-20 minutes, with their frequency gradually decreasing. Seismologists emphasize that during the first day after the main shock, repeated underground tremors were recorded much more frequently — every 5-10 minutes.
