A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 shook Kamchatka. This was reported by the regional department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, according to TASS.
The natural disaster occurred in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, 101 kilometers northwest of the village of Nikolskoye in the Aleutian municipal district. Instruments recorded that underground tremors were felt both in Nikolskoye itself and in the village of Ust-Kamchatsk in the Ust-Kamchatsk district, where the intensity of oscillations reached 4 points on the MSK-64 scale.
Simultaneously with the underground tremors, as reported by the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano awakened.
"A glow was recorded at the top of the crater, indicating the beginning of a new eruption. It lasted several minutes," specialists reported.
Klyuchevskaya Sopka is a majestic giant and the highest active volcano in Eurasia. It rises as an almost perfect cone with a crater about 700 meters in diameter. About 80 side craters and slag cones are located on its slopes. The volcano is located 30 km from the village of Klyuchi in the Ust-Kamchatsk district, where about 4,500 people live.
