The Secret of Healthy Hair: It's Not About Washing Frequency, But Proper Care
As reported by TUT.AZ, Russian dermatologist and cosmetologist Larisa Safonova in an interview with pravda.ru debunked a popular myth about hair loss and explained the real causes of the problem.
According to the expert, what matters most is not the number of washing procedures, but whether the shampoo matches the scalp type, and the conditioner and mask match the hair structure. It's precisely incorrectly chosen products that create the illusion of increased hair loss and gradually worsen the condition of the hair. Safonova emphasizes that dryness, brittleness, and thinning are most often the result of aggressive impact or insufficient hydration.
"If the shampoo doesn't match your scalp type, it can cause dryness and brittleness, which visually creates the feeling of hair loss. For example, with an oily scalp and dry colored hair, incorrectly selected products quickly lead to deterioration in hair quality. But if you use shampoo for the scalp and care products - conditioner, mask, heat protection - for the hair itself, problems don't arise. There are also special mild shampoos suitable for daily use," explained the dermatologist.
The expert notes that washing frequency is a purely individual matter and depends on physiological characteristics. Men usually wash their hair every day, and there's nothing wrong with that. For women, the situation is more varied: those with oily scalps can also wash their hair daily, provided they use properly selected comprehensive care and gentle formulas that don't dry out the length.
"It's important that shampoo is selected according to scalp type, while conditioner and mask according to hair condition, and these parameters don't always coincide. Heat protection is essential, even if hair dries naturally - it protects not only from the hair dryer but also from external factors. For the ends, it's better to use emulsions and creams rather than pure oil: it enhances heating and can cause the opposite effect of drying out. Care should be multi-step and adapted to hair type," Safonova emphasized.
In conclusion, the specialist emphasized that properly selected care helps maintain healthy hair structure and protects it from styling damage. If brittleness appears or hair loss noticeably increases, it's recommended to consult a doctor to rule out dermatological and hormonal causes of the problem.
