Telegram and WhatsApp named leaders in number of cybercrimes in messaging apps

Telegram and WhatsApp lead among platforms used for committing cybercrimes in Russia. This information was provided by the department for organizing the fight against illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Analysis of statistical data shows that today a significant number of crimes are committed using popular messengers and social networks. The leaders are foreign messengers Telegram and WhatsApp," - stated the department.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, just in the past week 414 crimes were committed through Telegram, and 313 through WhatsApp. "For comparison, the number of crimes committed using the social network VKontakte was 19, using the social network Odnoklassniki - 1 crime, while no crimes were recorded using the MAX messenger," - reported the ministry.
