Leading ecologists of the world have launched an unprecedented study on the future of the World Ocean. This large-scale scientific project has attracted more than a hundred authoritative specialists, each of whom has at least six published scientific papers on climate change and sea level fluctuations.
As reported by the portal TechInsider, researchers focused on a critically important question: how different volumes of carbon dioxide emissions will affect the rise in global water levels. The results were shocking — many experts paint a significantly more alarming picture than the official forecasts of the UN climate group.
According to the most pessimistic scenario, by the end of this century, the ocean level may rise by 1.3 meters, which significantly exceeds the official UN forecasts. An even more dramatic situation may develop by 2300, when the rise in waters could reach the five-meter mark, creating a catastrophic threat to coastal regions across the planet.
