Scientists have developed a natural remedy for effective weight loss
# Scientists from Singapore Developed a Natural Weight Loss Agent That Blocks Fat Absorption
**Researchers from Nanyang Technological University have created a unique weight loss drug based on natural compounds. The results of the work are presented in the journal Pharmacological Research.**
The main difference between the new agent and existing analogues is its natural origin. The development is based on fatty acid esters of hydroxyl fatty acids, known by the abbreviation FAHFA. These lipids are naturally present in the human body and are found in food products.
Scientists have long known about the beneficial effects of FAHFA on metabolism. However, their natural concentration is too low, and the compounds themselves are quickly destroyed in the digestive tract. The Singaporean team managed to solve this problem — the specialists created a stable form of FAHFA that is resistant to the gastrointestinal environment and suitable for regular oral administration.
Animal trials demonstrated impressive results. The new compounds significantly reduced the absorption of dietary fats — the most calorie-dense component of the diet. As the researchers explain, one gram of fat provides the body with nine kilocalories, which is twice the energy value of proteins and carbohydrates.
In addition, the drug stimulated the growth of beneficial gut microflora that produces short-chain fatty acids. These substances accelerate metabolism, suppress inflammatory processes, and strengthen the protective barrier of the intestines.
"In combination with proper nutrition and physical exercise, this approach can become an additional tool in the fight against excess weight and reduce the burden on the liver. We are currently evaluating the safety and efficacy of the agent for use in humans," the developers reported.
