People who constantly chew gum throughout the day may face serious health problems. Dentist Ekaterina Tsybina warned about this, explaining the possible consequences of this habit.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Lenta.ru," the expert claims that prolonged chewing creates an uneven load on the masticatory muscles and the temporomandibular joint, significantly increasing the likelihood of microtraumas.
According to Tsybina, the first signs of the problem are fatigue in the cheeks and temples, which by evening turns into real pain in the masticatory muscles. As the situation progresses, characteristic clicks and crunching appear when opening the mouth, unpleasant sensations of "jamming" while yawning, and reduced jaw mobility. The specialist notes that many patients also experience migraines in the temporal-occipital region, a feeling of ear congestion, noises, and uncomfortable sensations in the cervical region.
Nevertheless, the expert does not call for a complete rejection of chewing gum. Tsybina recommends an optimal usage regime: chew sugar-free gum for no more than 10-20 minutes after eating and categorically avoid the habit of constantly chewing something throughout the day.
