Breakthrough in the fight against baldness: Korean ginseng protects against hormonal hair loss
Scientists from Sejong University have made an important discovery in the field of trichology - ginsenoside Rf, a compound from Korean ginseng, has demonstrated a significant protective effect against hormonal hair loss. The results of this promising research have been published in the authoritative scientific journal Industrial Crops and Products (ICP).
In experiments on mice with androgenetic alopecia - the most common form of baldness - the application of ginsenoside Rf showed impressive results. Despite suppressed hair cycles, the test animals showed notable improvement in hair growth. Researchers recorded an increase in the number and size of hair follicles, as well as thickening of the hairs themselves. Microscopic tissue analysis confirmed the restoration of normal structure and functional activity of hair bulbs.
The scientific team deciphered the unique mechanism of action of the substance. Ginsenoside Rf suppresses the activity of androgen receptors - key proteins through which male hormones trigger processes of hair thinning and loss. The compound accelerates the degradation of these receptors inside cells, which weakens the hormonal signals leading to baldness. Such a mechanism of action has not been previously described in scientific literature on alopecia problems.
The researchers emphasize that the data obtained are based on a preclinical model and require confirmation in clinical trials involving humans. However, the results already indicate the high potential of ginsenoside Rf as a basis for developing natural remedies for preventing hair loss and products for maintaining scalp health.
