Polish man sues IVF clinic over "forced fatherhood" without his consent
This is reported by the newspaper "Rzeczpospolita".
According to the published information, the couple planned to use the services of this clinic, but shortly after their relationship ended in a breakup. After the separation, the woman decided to use her former partner's genetic material without his consent. To carry out the procedure, she allegedly forged his signature.
The man, who had not planned to become a father, learned about his ex-partner's pregnancy after the fact. Realizing that after the child's birth he would face alimony payments, he decided to seek compensation from the clinic that performed the in vitro fertilization. In his lawsuit, he demands reimbursement for the amounts he would potentially have to pay for the maintenance of the unwanted child.
Attorney Monika Vishnevskaya notes that such cases are becoming increasingly common worldwide. A special term has even emerged for this phenomenon - "forced fatherhood." According to the lawyer, Polish courts have not previously dealt with such lawsuits, but there is a possibility that the clinic will be held liable under the provisions of the Civil Code and required to pay compensation to the injured party who did not consent to the procedure.
