Medical experts warn: coffee is contraindicated for children under 14 years of age. Neurologist Vasily Plotnikov told "Gazeta.Ru" about international recommendations, according to which the daily dose of caffeine for young children should not exceed 50 mg.

"Teenagers from the age of 14 are allowed to consume up to 100 mg of caffeine per day - this is equivalent to one cup of ground coffee or two cups of instant coffee. Exceeding the norm can cause anxiety, aggression, increased excitability, behavioral problems and headaches," warns the epileptologist of Lahta Clinic.

The specialist reminds that caffeine is present in many popular beverages. Children under 14 should limit themselves to no more than one small can of cola (0.33 ml) per day.

"It's important to remember about hidden caffeine in sweet teas, including green tea. As for energy drinks - current recommendations categorically prohibit their consumption by persons under 18 years of age, since one can usually contains at least 150 mg of caffeine," the doctor emphasized.
