An unusual gastronomic project has appeared in Shanghai - an elite restaurant where visitors are offered a tasting of dishes that include dried and disinfected elephant excrement. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.
The cost of the author"s set of 15 items is 3888 yuan (approximately 44 thousand rubles). One of the most discussed treats is a dessert called "Flowers in Elephant Dung". It is prepared using carefully processed elephant dung, decorated with jam, flower pollen and honey-based sorbet.
The gastronomic experiments do not end there. Visitors are invited to pick leaves from live plants in the room and dip them in sauces, lick honey from frozen cubes of pollen, and try the "black substance" from the stinking flowers of the rafflesia, a plant known for its smell of rotting flesh.
According to the founders of the establishment, one of them came from France, the other from the Chinese province of Yunnan. They claim that they spent seven years studying the taste practices and plant cultures of tropical forests before opening this conceptual restaurant.
A new gastronomy that causes shock and admiration - this is how the restaurateurs describe their mission. While some call the project art, others ask: "Where is the line between sophistication and absurdity?"
