New research: one cup of coffee a day improves gut function, but there are important nuances
A large-scale study involving more than 12,000 people has brought good news for coffee lovers: just 100 mg of caffeine - the equivalent of one cup of the aromatic beverage - helps normalize gut function. However, scientists warn against excessive consumption and certain brewing methods.
"An important nuance: if you drink the invigorating beverage, consuming more than 204 mg of caffeine per day, you may experience the opposite effect - constipation," Daily Mail quotes the researchers.
The results showed an unexpected pattern: each additional serving of the beverage (100 mg of caffeine) increases the risk of developing constipation by six percent.
Researchers added that there is also good news for tea lovers.
"A cup of tea can also help normalize gut function. On average, it contains 20 to 70 mg of caffeine," the specialists stated.
The material about this was published in the Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare.
Doctors also reminded about the dangers of unfiltered coffee: "Unlike drip coffee makers, for example, a French press doesn't have a paper filter to remove coffee oils and impurities."
The latter are associated with the development of several types of cancer. Especially throat and pancreatic cancer.
