Doctor revealed the main mistakes in self-treating migraines

Neurologist and Candidate of Medical Sciences Natalya Kadymova named the most common mistakes people make during migraine attacks. According to the specialist, incorrect actions can not only worsen the course of an attack but also significantly reduce the effectiveness of treatment.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Lenta.ru," one of the most serious mistakes is delaying the intake of painkillers. The doctor pointed out that many patients expect the pain to subside on its own and miss precious time. While the person hesitates, the attack gains strength, and dealing with pain that has already fully developed becomes many times more difficult.

According to Kadymova, the maximum effect is achieved when medication is taken at the very beginning of an attack. In the early stage, migraines are significantly easier to manage, whereas when the pain syndrome is pronounced, the effect of medications may be noticeably weaker.

Another typical mistake the specialist pointed out is taking an insufficient dose of painkillers. If the medication does not completely relieve the pain, there is a high risk of the attack recurring, which forces the person to resort to medication again.

At the same time, the doctor warned that overusing analgesics is no less dangerous. Too frequent intake of painkillers can provoke so-called medication-overuse headache. As a result, medications become increasingly less effective, there is a need to increase the dosage and frequency of intake, and over time this can seriously worsen the course of migraines.
