Nuts and dried fruits, which many people are accustomed to considering a flawless snack, can actually provoke overeating and serious stomach discomfort if consumed without moderation, doctors warn.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to "Gazeta.Ru," neurogastroenterologist Andrey Simakov drew attention to the fact that despite the obvious benefits of these products, uncontrolled consumption of them poses a risk of hidden excess calories and unpleasant consequences for the gastrointestinal tract.
The main trap, according to the Russian specialist, lies in the deceptive perception of nuts as "light" food. In reality, even a small handful contains an impressive energy reserve, and a person unknowingly goes far beyond the daily calorie norm.
Simakov clarified that almonds, pistachios, and cashews, when consumed excessively, often cause a feeling of heaviness and bloating. The situation is no better with dried fruits: the high concentration of sugars and dietary fiber can provoke increased gas formation — especially if eaten on an empty stomach or in combination with nuts.
The doctor also emphasized that the body's reaction is largely determined by individual characteristics. People with a sensitive gut or a tendency toward irritable bowel syndrome are more likely to experience discomfort, especially when eating quickly.
The specialists' conclusion is clear: nuts and dried fruits can certainly remain part of a healthy diet — but only in moderation. Uncontrolled consumption of them throughout the day can simultaneously take a toll on both one's figure and digestion.
