Early sleep - the secret to an active day: Monash scientists revealed an unexpected connection between bedtime and physical activity. A large-scale year-long study, published in the prestigious scientific journal PNAS, analyzed nearly six million observations of 19 thousand participants, revealing a surprising pattern.
The research results are striking: early sleepers demonstrate significantly higher physical activity the next day. "Larks" who fall asleep at 9:00 PM devote a whole half hour more to sports and movement compared to "owls" who go to bed around 1:00 AM. Particularly interesting is that even with the same sleep duration, earlier bedtime consistently correlates with increased physical activity throughout the following day.
The scientific team explains the discovered phenomenon by reduced "social jetlag" and optimal preparation of the body for daytime activity. Despite the fact that the study established only correlation, not direct causation, experts believe that simple sleep schedule adjustment can become a powerful tool for maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
