Putin thanked North Korean military for participating in battles in Kursk region
Russian President Vladimir Putin officially confirmed the participation of Korean People's Army units in combat operations against Ukrainian military who invaded the territory of the Kursk region. The head of state expressed deep gratitude to the North Korean servicemen and personally to the DPRK leader Kim Jong Un for the support provided.
"We pay tribute to the heroism, high level of special training and selflessness of Korean soldiers who, shoulder to shoulder with Russian fighters, defended our Homeland as their own. They fulfilled their duty with honor and valor, covering themselves with undying glory. The Russian people will never forget the feat of Korean special forces fighters. We will always honor the Korean heroes who gave their lives for Russia, for our common freedom, on par with Russian brothers in arms," says the message in the Kremlin's Telegram channel.
The President of the Russian Federation stated that the units of the Korean People's Army took part in defeating the invading Ukrainian Armed Forces "in full compliance with international law, according to the letter and spirit of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea dated June 19, 2024." "In particular, in accordance with Article 4 of the Treaty, which provides for immediate military assistance in the event of an armed attack on one of the contracting Parties," Putin added.
"Korean friends acted based on a sense of solidarity, justice and genuine comradeship. We highly value this and are sincerely grateful personally to the Chairman of State Affairs Comrade Kim Jong Un, the entire leadership and people of the DPRK," noted the President of the Russian Federation.
"We are confident that the relations of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation between our countries, tempered on the battlefield, will continue to develop successfully and dynamically in all directions," Putin said.
Last Saturday, April 26, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, during a report to Putin, announced the liberation of the entire Kursk region from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The head of the General Staff also noted that the DPRK military provided significant assistance.
