New coronavirus strain Stratus discovered in Israel: six cases of infection recorded
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to local media, the Israeli Ministry of Health has confirmed the first six cases of infection with the new COVID-19 XFG strain, named Stratus. Meanwhile, the incidence rate in the country continues to remain at a low level. The characteristic symptoms of the new strain — fever, cough, sore throat, and increased fatigue — are almost identical to the manifestations of other variants of coronavirus infection.
According to information from the World Health Organization, existing COVID-19 vaccines will most likely maintain their effectiveness against the Stratus strain.
"From a public health perspective overall, this COVID variant does not cause concern," emphasized Professor Eyal Leshem, who heads the Center for Travel Medicine and Tropical Diseases at the Shiba Medical Center.
Recall that the strain was first identified in January in Southeast Asia and is already spreading in the US and throughout Europe.
