Elon Musk sounds the alarm: Europe on the brink of demographic catastrophe
The well-known technology magnate and founder of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk expressed deep concern about the future of the European continent due to catastrophically low birth rates, reports RT.
On his account on the social network X, the billionaire reacted to shocking data from Scotland, where in the first half of 2025, mortality exceeded birth rate by a dramatic 34%.
"If the birth rate does not return to at least replacement level, Europe will die out," Musk warned in his resonant comment.
Demographers emphasize that to maintain basic population levels, a fertility rate of at least 2.1 children per woman is necessary. Meanwhile, some researchers insist that for sustainable population development, this indicator should reach approximately 2.7 children per woman.
The current demographic picture in Europe raises serious concerns: in England and European Union countries, the fertility rate has plummeted to a critical mark of 1.4, and in Scotland the situation is even more alarming - only 1.3, which is an unprecedentedly low indicator in the entire history of observations.
Musk himself, who is the father of at least 14 children, does not limit himself to words and actively finances demographic research, allocating million-dollar grants for these purposes. He systematically draws the attention of the world community to the problem of falling birth rates in Europe and firmly believes that the demographic crisis poses "a much greater risk to civilization" than even global climate change.
According to the UN, the global trend of declining birth rates has been observed for more than fifty years. In 2024, the global average was approximately 2.2 births per woman, which is significantly lower compared to 5 children in the 1970s and 3.3 in the 1990s.
