Trump assured Zelensky and G7 leaders of continued support for Ukraine regardless of the outcome of his meeting with Putin
This is reported by Axios, citing informed sources.
According to the publication, the US president sought to dispel allies' concerns about a possible repeat of the "Yalta scenario" during the upcoming talks in Alaska.
"During private phone conversations with Zelensky and other G7 leaders this week, Trump tried to allay their fears, emphasizing that even if negotiations with Putin fail, he will continue military supplies to Ukraine, two sources familiar with the content of the conversations told Axios," the article states.
According to the sources, such guarantees from the American leader were seen as a step toward reducing anxiety among European partners who fear possible separate agreements between Washington and Moscow. According to Axios, there is particular concern about the possibility of decisions being made on the Ukrainian issue without Ukraine's participation.
