Apple prepares for a large-scale transfer of iPhone production from China to India
American technology giant Apple plans to radically change the geography of its smartphone production, moving the assembly of all iPhones intended for the American market to India. The reason for such decisive actions is the tense trade policy of US President Donald Trump towards China.
As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, the trade war unleashed by the Trump administration against China significantly increases production costs and creates additional risks for iPhone manufacturing on Chinese territory. Although the Cupertino corporation had been working on diversifying its production chains before, this process is now accelerating significantly.
According to Apple's ambitious plans, by the end of 2026, Indian enterprises should produce more than 60 million iPhones for consumers in the US, which essentially means doubling the current production volumes in this country. The implementation of these intentions is facilitated by active trade negotiations between Washington and New Delhi on the future structure of import duties. The recent visit of US Vice President JD Vance to India brought "very good progress" in this direction, as the high-ranking official himself noted.
According to the Financial Times, Apple's leadership maintains constant communication with the US presidential administration on tariff policy issues and actively lobbies for the creation of the most favorable conditions for expanding its presence in the Indian market.
