Maria Zakharova on the probability of withdrawing Russian troops from Armenia

Zakharova refutes rumors about withdrawal of Russian troops from Armenia

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing categorically denied information about the possible withdrawal of Russian military from the territory of Armenia, emphasizing that this topic has never appeared in official bilateral negotiations.

The diplomat responded to a question from a TUT.AZ journalist about possible positive changes in Russian-Armenian relations after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan first congratulated Russia on its national holiday, expressing hope for strengthening bilateral ties, and the next day declared interest in maintaining the Russian military presence in the republic.

In her response, Zakharova decisively dotted the i's:
"We regularly maintain dialogue with Yerevan in all areas, with relevant departments involved. But the question of withdrawing Russian troops has never been raised at a practical level. Perhaps it is being discussed in public or expert circles in Armenia - that's a separate issue. But such a question has never been on the official agenda of our contacts."
