Erdogan supported Trump on Ukraine

Erdogan supported Trump's position on Ukraine and announced "friendly" talks with the American leader

"We also support [Trump's] vision of peace, especially between Russia and Ukraine. We welcome that in his position he also takes into account Turkey's concerns," Erdogan told journalists.

The Turkish leader revealed details of his communication with the American president, emphasizing that he maintains constant contact with Trump through "telephone diplomacy." According to Erdogan, their conversations take place in a "very friendly, sincere and productive" atmosphere, which creates a solid foundation for further strengthening bilateral relations.

"Relations between our two countries have deep roots. We have many topics to discuss and many steps to take. Therefore, our ministries continue to work on organizing a meeting that will determine the course of Turkish-American relations. The schedule of this meeting is also being worked out," the Turkish president explained.

Erdogan expressed confidence that with his "friend Trump" they would be able to give bilateral ties "a completely different momentum."

The Turkish leader also noted the coincidence of positions on the Syrian issue: "On Syria, we also see that as two leaders we understand each other. Of course, we will continue to seek compromises on a reasonable basis in those areas where our opinions differ. We are both leaders who believe that we can overcome issues perceived by some circles as risks through dialogue and diplomacy."

When asked by journalists about a possible personal meeting between the two presidents, given rumors about Trump's planned visit to Gulf countries in May with a possible subsequent visit to Turkey, Erdogan confirmed that preparation for such a meeting is actively being conducted at the level of relevant ministries.
