A meeting between Trump and Zelensky took place in the White House

The long-awaited meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place in Washington.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to the live broadcast from the White House on social media, during the conversation Trump expressed optimism regarding the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The American leader mentioned his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska and emphasized that now there is an "excellent opportunity" to resolve the prolonged confrontation.

Zelensky, in turn, expressed gratitude to Trump for his active efforts to establish peace in Ukraine.

The American side at the important negotiations was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President JD Vance, and the head of state's special envoy Steve Witkoff. The Ukrainian delegation was led by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.

Trump personally greeted Zelensky at the entrance to the White House. After the traditional joint photo session and brief comments for the press, the leaders of the two countries proceeded inside the building.

Responding to a journalist's question about his message to the Ukrainian people, Trump emotionally stated: "We love them."

Earlier, the White House press service informed that the visit program includes an hour-long meeting between Trump and Zelensky, after which the American president will receive European leaders.
