Powerful solar flare poses no threat to Earth: scientists reassure the population. This was announced by specialists from the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at IKI RAS and ISTP SB RAS, reports TUT.AZ with reference to TASS.
"Serious consequences for Earth are ruled out. The flare likely occurred deep in the Sun's atmosphere and was almost completely shielded by powerful magnetic fields. Frontal plasma ejections toward Earth have not been detected. Small signs of mass ejections were noticed only on the right edge of the Sun and are directed away from our planet," the statement says.
Earlier, the Institute of Applied Geophysics confirmed to TASS the fact of an X1.2 class flare that occurred on the night of June 18.
