A flawless appearance can hide deep fears and anxieties. Clinical psychologist and cognitive-behavioral therapy specialist Nadezhda Turlaeva told "Gazeta.Ru" about this.
"Sometimes a beautiful appearance is an indicator of confidence and self-love. However, often behind 'perfection' lies anxious control, the desire to conform, the fear of being rejected. This is an adaptation to the social conditions in which you find yourself at the moment," said the doctor.
According to her, if a person looks unkempt, it doesn't always mean they don't respect themselves or are depressed.
"Often it's a moment of liberation from others' standards or a transitional phase. The body also has pauses. The real connection between the external and internal is in bodily liveliness, in sincerity, in what a person radiates to the surrounding world," explained Turlaeva.
The psychologist explained that neurophysiologically, people can read states.
"We sense tension, fatigue, sincerity - not with our eyes, but through micro-movements, tone, breathing, voice," said the doctor.
Another common misconception, according to Turlaeva, is that "working on yourself" means always being beautiful and slim.
"Working on yourself is learning to be in contact: with your body, with your feelings, with life," concluded the psychologist.
