"Don't drink coffee during meals — it blocks iron absorption," — stated renowned nutritionist Paula Martin in an exclusive interview with El Español. The expert paid special attention to the fact that the aromatic beverage most negatively affects the absorption of iron specifically from plant sources.

According to the specialist, iron is present in a wide range of products: liver, red meat, fish, legumes, tofu, spinach, nuts, seeds, and whole grain products. Martin explained that while consuming coffee with animal products may be relatively acceptable, plant-based foods are much more effectively combined with sources of vitamin C for better iron absorption.
