A non-obvious yet common cause of bleeding gums has been revealed

Bleeding gums can be caused by malocclusion, said Victoria Radko, head of the orthodontic department of the European Scientific and Clinical Center EUROKAPPA clinic. In an interview with "Lenta.ru," the expert revealed the connection between improper teeth alignment and gum problems.

The specialist emphasized the key role of bite in distributing the load on periodontal tissues. "When teeth close incorrectly, the load on certain areas becomes excessive. This leads to microtraumas of the gums, their chronic irritation and, as a result, bleeding, even in the absence of inflammatory diseases," explained Radko.

"The problem may not be in hygiene, but in mechanics. Incorrect positioning of teeth interferes with normal cleaning and provokes constant pressure on soft tissues," noted Victoria Radko.

The expert also added that constant overload of the gums can aggravate the course of existing oral diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, and significantly reduce the effectiveness of the treatment being carried out.
