A connection discovered: tooth decay and blood sugar are interrelated

A study on 65 patients at the prestigious London clinic Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust revealed an unexpected connection: dental problems can significantly increase blood sugar levels. Inflammatory processes in the dental pulp allow infection to enter the bloodstream, causing systemic inflammation and negatively affecting blood biochemical indicators.

As reported by TUT.AZ with reference to The Guardian, scientists particularly note that normalizing blood sugar levels is only possible through timely dental treatment, which effectively blocks the pathways for bacteria to enter the bloodstream. Regular oral health care becomes an important factor in preventing diabetes and serious cardiovascular diseases.

"This is not just about fixing a problem with one tooth. Such procedures have a long-term impact on the patient's overall condition, especially in terms of reducing the risk of chronic diseases, including heart disease and diabetes," emphasized Dr. Sadia Niazi from King's College London.
