Vladimir Zelensky reminded the US about the promise not to recognize Crimea as Russian

The United States in 2018 declared non-recognition of Russia's status of Crimea.

As reported by TUT.AZ, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reminded about this on his page on the social network X.

He published a screenshot of a statement by former US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo dated July 25, 2018. The document stated: "The United States rejects Russia's attempt to annex Crimea and commits to maintaining this policy until Ukraine's territorial integrity is restored."

Pompeo also emphasized that Washington does not recognize Russia's claims to sovereignty over territory that was "seized by force in violation of international law."

"We are grateful to our partners. Ukraine will always act in accordance with its Constitution. And we are absolutely confident that our partners, in particular, the United States, will act in accordance with its firm decisions," Zelensky wrote.

Note that Mike Pompeo led the US foreign policy department for most of Donald Trump's first presidential term - from spring 2018 until he stepped down in January 2021.
