US President Donald Trump stated that he sees interest from Russia in the economic potential of the United States.
As reported by TUT.AZ, he informed journalists about this before departing for Alaska, where a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin is planned.
According to Trump, during the negotiations he intends to discuss the territorial issue with Putin, emphasizing that the final decision should be made by Kyiv:
"I am ready to discuss business issues with Putin if progress can be achieved on the Ukrainian front.
Russia will face severe economic consequences if the summit in Alaska does not bring progress on the Ukrainian issue."
Trump emphasized that he would prefer to concentrate on the internal problems of the United States, but is participating in the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict "to save lives"
Regarding the possibility of providing security guarantees to Ukraine, the American president noted that this is feasible provided that European and other countries participate.
"I do not allow for the possibility of providing Kyiv with security guarantees in the NATO format. This will not happen. I also do not intend to negotiate on behalf of Kyiv, I am here to get everyone to the table," the American leader emphasized.
He also announced his intention to impose tariffs on steel and microchip imports next week.
