The only survivor of the Boeing 787 plane crash in India shared his miraculous escape. Vishwash Kumar, a 40-year-old British man of Indian origin, became the only person who survived the crash that claimed 241 lives. In an exclusive interview with DD News, he admitted that he cannot explain how he remained alive.
"I was returning to London after visiting family and was sitting by the window near the emergency exit," Kumar shared. His survival is already being called a true miracle - out of 242 passengers and crew members on board, he was the only one who managed to survive.
The man described in detail the dramatic final minutes of the fatal flight: "Immediately after takeoff, the plane began to behave strangely, and after a few seconds it crashed into a building." After the collision, a fire broke out on board, resulting in serious burns to Kumar's left arm.
"At first I thought I wouldn't be able to escape either - people were screaming around me," recalls the survivor. "But when I opened my eyes, I realized I was alive, and tried to unbuckle from the seat and get out of there where I could," he added.
Witnesses to the tragedy captured on video how Kumar, limping, made his way to the ambulance on his own. Initially, he was thought to be one of those injured on the ground, and only later was it discovered that he was a passenger on the crashed airliner. Kumar is currently in the hospital under medical observation.
The plane was operating a flight from Ahmedabad to London. According to police, there were 242 people on board. Emergency response teams, including fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the crash site, reports News18 channel.
Former senior pilot, Captain Sorabh Bhatnagar, in a comment to the press, suggested that the cause of the crash could have been multiple bird strikes to the engines, causing both engines to lose power.
