Terrorist attack on a petrochemical plant prevented in Russia

FSB prevented a major terrorist attack on a petrochemical facility in Nizhny Novgorod region

As reported by TUT.AZ, officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia successfully prevented the preparation of a large-scale terrorist act at a strategically important petrochemical industry facility in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

"In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a sabotage and terrorist act planned by Ukrainian special services with the participation of two Central Asian natives - adherents of the ideology of an international terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation, was prevented," reported the Public Relations Center of the FSB of Russia.

"Acting on the instructions of a Ukrainian handler, the foreign citizens retrieved FPV drones with improvised explosive devices from a cache to commit a sabotage and terrorist act at one of the petrochemical industry enterprises in the region. During the arrest, they offered armed resistance and were neutralized by return fire," the FSB noted.

At the scene, operatives discovered and seized a serious arsenal: two unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with warheads made of foreign-produced explosive material, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, and a Makarov pistol. "The criminals' phones contained correspondence with their handler, evidencing the preparation of a sabotage and terrorist act, as well as coordinates of a cache with weapons and firearms," the Public Relations Center reported.

The Investigation Department of the FSB for the Nizhny Novgorod region has initiated a criminal case on the fact of preparation for sabotage. Currently, necessary operational search activities and investigative actions are being conducted.
